I am so fortunate for the clients I have, they are all amazing! Wendy asked me recently to do another portrait session of her little boy, Keagan (no, he’s not mine!), since she and her family were so happy with the results from the session back in April! Back during the first session I used a studio strobe with a big softbox to get some really soft light on little 4 month old Keagan, but half way through the session the sun came out and was filtering into the living room in such a beautiful way I switched to just natural light and was so happy with the results.

My approach for this shoot was to use the natural window light but to give that a boost by putting my Canon 580EX II speedlite, triggered remotely using my Paul Buff Cyber Sync trigger/receivers, on a stand right in front of the window (on the inside) and aim the light at the window and ceiling to bounce that extra light into the room in a flattering way, making it look like a really bright, beautiful day out, even though it really wasn’t. It worked great! (I wanted to share that technical stuff for the photographers reading this post, wondering how I light the environment.) The outside photos were strictly natural light, I only shot the images from this session using Canon Prime lenses, 35mm 1.4L, 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.2L.

Enough of the technical talk, here are some of my favorite images from the session:

And lastly, my absolute favorite photo from the day!
