This particular album is the red 10″x10″ Linen album, what I call my standard album in the packages I create for my clients. I used a scaled back version of Brittany & Luis’ custom wedding album design for this book, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and I can’t wait to show potential clients! If you refer me to a couple and they hire me to photograph their wedding, I’ll pay you $150!

I normally give $100 for a referral, but I am paying out $150 from now until January 31, 2012. Here are the details: The couple must sign a contract and pay the retainer to hold their wedding date by 1/31/12. If they do, you will get $150 check as a thank you. If it’s not until 2/1/12 or later, that’s fine, it’ll be $100 you get. Still a great deal! (You can refer as many engaged couples as you know, you will be paid for each couple that signs a contract/pays retainer!)

Want to know the reason why I’m paying more? I was approached by one of the large national wedding photographer directories (you know the one, you are probably still getting spammed by them even three years after your wedding) trying to entice me to pay to list with them… I have spoken with many other photographers over the last year about listing with that big company but none have really felt it was worth it… which leads me to this promotion. For the $1,800 I would spend to list with them for 12 months I would probably only get a few weddings, that doesn’t sound like a good investment to me. How about I take that money and pay it to YOU? Word of mouth is the best way to advertise!

If I can get 12 weddings through referrals for next year that will be a much better use of the $1,800! So what do you say? Can you refer me to the people you know who are getting engaged this holiday season?

My approach for this shoot was to use the natural window light but to give that a boost by putting my Canon 580EX II speedlite, triggered remotely using my Paul Buff Cyber Sync trigger/receivers, on a stand right in front of the window (on the inside) and aim the light at the window and ceiling to bounce that extra light into the room in a flattering way, making it look like a really bright, beautiful day out, even though it really wasn’t. It worked great! (I wanted to share that technical stuff for the photographers reading this post, wondering how I light the environment.) The outside photos were strictly natural light, I only shot the images from this session using Canon Prime lenses, 35mm 1.4L, 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.2L.

I must say… It’s amazing! First of all, I am so happy that Brendan & Janet ordered an awesome color like green, they are such a fun couple and this fits their personalities perfectly (and green is their favorite color). It’s almost as large as the book can possibly be, 38 out of a maximum of 40 spreads, and weighs in at a whopping 10.5 pounds at 3″ thick, it’s a monster!

And worth every penny.

The print quality is spectacular, exactly what I knew it would be. The leather is so soft, I’m very impressed. It’s gorgeous! Here are a couple images to show you what it looks like.

I have used other companies but I am blown away by KISS’ customer service and quality, I strongly recommend them to anyone looking for an amazing album company. The linen albums are also very beautiful, lay-flat just like this leather one, and the print quality just as (obviously) amazing, but at a slightly lower price.

That is really all I can say. I am so lucky to have met Brendan and Janet, I really am. They are so down to earth, so much fun, and really know how to party!  I first met them in November 2010, we met after exchanging a few emails to see if I would be a good fit as their photographer at the Joe’s down on the waterfront, we hit it off right away! I was lucky enough to shoot their engagement photos this January and as that day went on, I knew that their wedding was going to be epic! These two are absolutely smitten, they define what it means to be in love and I couldn’t possibly be any happier for them.

So, their wedding was yesterday down on the Boston Waterfront in Fosters Pavilion, right on the dock behind the Boston Harbor Hotel. The reception was aboard the Elite, an Entertainment Cruises ship that I have photographed another wedding on before, they did a fantastic job! Also, the weather has been terrible for the last two weeks or so and it finally cleared up yesterday and turned out to be beautiful! We couldn’t have possibly asked for a nicer day.

And this is just hilarious, I was in the right place at the right time, look at the look on Jill’s face! This reception truly was a celebration. And yes, this ended exactly the way you think it does…. with him landing flat on his back. He’s ok though.

These are excellent gifts to give the grandparents after a newborn session, your parents for your wedding photos, or yourself to carry around your family portraits!

I was fortunate enough to photograph Keagan (almost the same name as me!) this past Sunday, he was such a good baby! I was quite surprised at how patient he was, but we took several breaks to make sure he didn’t get overwhelmed. The first half of the session was done only with my studio light, the second half was window light since the sun decided to come out. I am so happy with how these photos came out! Check out the slideshow below but be warned, you are going to get mooned by Keagan (not me) towards the end!

Seriously, I have so much fun with my clients! The night we met up to discuss their photography needs we hit it off right away, it was almost like we had been friends all our lives. It took a little convincing Brendan to do an engagement session, but I think he’s the one who had the most fun with it!

It was extremely cold on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, around 12-15 degrees, but the sun was shining, no wind, the skies were clear, and everyone was in a great mood. Janet’s kids were a part of this shoot too, it speaks volumes to how important family is to these two, it was an honor to photograph this family!

Take a look at a few of my favorite photos from their beautiful engagement shoot, I really liked the impromptu sledding run in the Boston Common on a storage bin lid we found. I’m telling you, Brendan had a blast! Don’t let him tell you otherwise!
